Science Department

COVID-19 Updates

One of the primary responsibilities of the science department is to keep a running counter of relevant COVID-19 updates. This can range from the newest leaps and bounds in vaccine development, to new technologies created to aid the lives of individuals during the pandemic.

Research and Writing

The science team is responsible for releasing several weekly articles about scientific projects and developments in regards to COVID-19 and other disease areas; the team also engages in research studies organizational-wide.

Scientific Initiatives

Informational events and activities with an emphasis on STEM are designed by the science department to engage the R2AC audience and provide students with useful scientific information in an interactive format.

Sara Gehlaut

Hi! My name is Sara Gehlaut and I am from Toronto, Ontario. I love working at Race To A Cure because of its awesome team of ambitious and creative teenagers spanning across Canada! In my free time, I love to volunteer within my community and watch Bollywood movies as well as Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Some of my interests include science, math, global affairs, and just learning new things! Through Race to A Cure, I hope to promote its beautiful mission of spreading positivity to young leaders.

Celine Guirguis

Hey!! I’m Celine and I’m from Ottawa, Ontario. I’m starting university this fall at the University of Ottawa in the biomedical science program. I’m so excited to be joining R2AC so I can help educate people and myself on everything surrounding the current situation with COVID-19, whether it be how it affects the body, how it affects the population or even how we can manage our mental health. I am very happy to be surrounded by people who share the same interests and have the same passion as me and I am excited to be working with such a powerful and kind team.

Eureka Liu

Hello! My name is Eureka and I’m a high school student from British Columbia. Outside of school, I love getting involved with volunteer work and youth organizations to help make a positive impact in my community. I’m passionate about STEM so I aim to incorporate my scientific interests with my extracurriculars. You can usually find me either watching movies, studying, or pursuing my many academic and creative interests. In the future, I plan on getting a post-secondary degree in biology and working on biotech research and development. I’m happy to be a part of Race to a Cure and I can’t wait to work alongside all the incredible people in this organization!

Rachel Weng

Hi! My name is Rachel and I'm from Vancouver, British Columbia. I'm so grateful to be a part of Race to a Cure and to work with such talented and passionate individuals from all across the nation. In my free time, you can find me hiking outdoors, experimental baking, binging Netflix, or going on bubble tea excursions. I am particularly interested in the field of health and computer sciences, but I also enjoy learning about global affairs and politics. I hope to contribute towards Race to a Cure's mission of empowering youth through opportunities in STEM!

Ria Patel

Hi! My name is Ria, I’m from Ottawa, Ontario. This pandemic has turned many parts of our world upside down. However, it has also sparked the creation of many innovative youth organizations, including Race To A Cure. I am excited to work with this amazing team to spread reliable information and empower young people. I am passionate about science, music, math and sports. R2AC surely has a bright future and I can’t wait to be a part of it!
